John McCain Says: “Roe vs. Wade should be overturned…”
“Republican presidential candidate John McCain (news, bio, voting record), looking to improve his standing with the party’s conservative voters, said Sunday the court decision that legalized abortion should be overturned.”
It’s been a long slippery slope for McCain, but he’s finally made it to the bottom. Looks like there’s nothing more for him to sell out.

The link you put up appears to be outdated. It now points to an article about McCain criticising Rumsfeld. The article you are refering to can be found here: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/02/18/AR2007021801100.html
That same article has McCain supporting “abstinance only” sex education. Perhaps you are familiar with it: the educational program built around the idea that it isn’t necessary to teach children about human reproduction as long as we just tell them not to have sex. Because, of course, you can easily stop young people from having sex by simply telling them not to have sex.
In any event, McCain made a BIG mistake politically with his anti-Roe coments. He has alienated a large portion of his base in hopes of gaining votes from amoung the “Christian” right. The problem is that it won’t work, as it is highly unlikely that the christian right will ever trust him (see http://www.nrlc.org/news/1999/NRL999/mccain.html) Now, the mainstream won’t trust him either.

Thanks for the heads up, Publus. It’s unaccountable how some of those links tank so quickly on the digg database.
I think that the most interesting fallacy about the “abstinance only” sex education movement is that it’s based on the idea that the cause of sex is teaching kids about sex, and if they were never taught, they’d never know about it, and there’d be no teenage sex.
It’s certainly a tradeoff he’s decided to make. Not that I was highly likely to vote for him…but he’s traded away my vote, that’s for sure.
