Following up on the farce that the supposed ACORN tapes have turned out to be… The transcripts of the originals show that both the O’Keefe and Giles were dressed in street clothes. He was posing as a college student trying to help an abused prostitute escape with some underage prostitutes from her pimp, all the rest is creative editing and dubbing.
Nobody does it better than Stephen Colbert, if the “it” he does best is creative editing to make it look like someone is saying something they never meant to say.
I read an interesting post on Salon this morning, and followed it over to the personal blog of the guy who wrote it.
Notwithstanding that the SCOTUS has deliberately decided not to rule on the corporate personhood issue, they have decided that corporations have the right to as much if not more free speech than us biological units.
What is more central an exercise of free speech than the right to vote?
Watch the token Attractive Blonde Lady with nothing at all to add to the conversation. Who does that remind you of?
And of course, what would be more appropriate at this time than Rahm Emanuel’s apology to the American public for calling progressives “fucking retarded”?
The RNC has announced that its rebuttal tonight of President Obama’s national address to schoolchildren will be delivered by Hiram Walker Jones, a part-time worker at a 7/11 in Oklahoma. Michael Steele, National Chairman, characterizes the upcoming speech as a “strong statement for parental rights and American public opinion.”
Jones, who dropped out of middle school when he reached age 16 after being held back 3 times, “has been proudly working for corporate America,” said Mitch McConnell, who added that he stands shoulder-to-shoulder with working Americans who are not afraid to stand up for free market principles.
“Jones will speak out against education as a scam that elitist liberals use to cheat their way into positions of power and control over the media. He will also talk about reverse discrimination and reverse racism endemic in the current administration. He will speak about the rights of parents not to have their kids in school lectured to by an uppity black man,” said Rush Limbaugh, when asked for a comment.
“He will come out against socialist policies like universal health care, food stamps, and unemployment compensation, which are breaking the backs of the hardest-working Americans, the wealthy, and creating a nation dependent on government handouts,” said John Boehner, in a statement to the press. “We are proud that an uninsured American like Jones, who has not fallen for liberal lies about health care reform despite having a diabetic child who is unable to see a doctor and a mother who died from cancer last year after her health insurance company rescinded her policy for not telling them her feet hurt after working a double shift at the local truck stop, where she was a waitress, serving proud American truckers, who are the lifeblood of this country.”
Said Betsy McCaughey, “Jones will wisely come out against major changes to the health care system, changes that might result in health care services being provided to the tens of millions undeserving living in our midst.”
A spokesman for the National Heritage Foundation said that real Americans like Jones are showing us that polls do not represent what real Americans really think about the issues. “Real Americans understand that it is necessary to first balance the budget and cut taxes to the wealthy, even if it means increasing taxes to the working poor, eliminating all social services, and a return to debtor’s prisons.”
Jones became involved in the Tea Party movement when he heard about it in April while watching the Glenn Beck show and listening to Rush Limbaugh, as he does daily. He attended the April 15th rally, but was unable to attend a July4th rally, as he couldn’t afford to put gas in his car.
Jones is currently working his shift at the convenience store, and could not be reached for comment. A 7/11 spokesman said that under no circumstances are employees permitted personal calls while at work.
Jones is living with his wife and 3 children in his father’s basement.
It looks like the White House has decided to “walk back” its support for health care reform, which means they won’t be supporting the “public option” component of the bill anymore. Before they said it was essential, but now they think it’s a good idea, one which we’ll just have to let go so we can get some bill, any bill passed that is bipartisan.
Bipartisanship has turned out to be the make-or-break issue. It doesn’t matter if the bill makes things 100 times worse for every American who is not a health insurance CEO, politician, or lobbyist. What matters is that some bill has bipartisan support.
Appeasing the Republicans has been the only strategy. They don’t think enough has been given in? Appease more!
Looking back at the real world where people who voted on that sole issue were actually expecting the administration to fight vigorously on it, the administration seems confused. They don’t understand why people don’t want a huge transfer of their money to go right to health insurance companies while getting nothing in return. They don’t understand why we want the situation to improve.
They don’t understand why we’re tired of insurance company death panels telling granny to just die.
Me, I don’t see any difference between doing nothing and what the administration has done, which is to fight half-heartedly on the bill, while constantly sending up “trial balloons” to industry that any compromise will be considered, but nothing that will help the public is sacred.
Putting in charge Rahm Emanuel, a man who has always been opposed to health care for real Americans, has resulted in no improvement, just as if there was never any intention of pushing the issue through.
Why, isn’t “any reform” better than “no reform” even if it’s not “reform” at all?
I guess it was just a lie from the start. They counted on us just being willing foot soldiers who will do whatever we are told (“Work for this plan!”, “Keep on giving money!”)
So here, an ad for the rest of us, telling how we feel about it.
All right, so I was beside myself today when I read that someone asked Sarah Palin how she was going to withstand ethics accusations as President, if she couldn’t take them as Governor.
And she said that the “Department of Law” would look at those complaints and throw them right out.
Like, excuse me? The what? Now I am really, really glad she is completely out of politics. Seriously, gladder than ever.
And did you hear the one about how some Alaskan has filed another ethics complaint against her? Remember back when it came out that she had charged the state a per diem for staying at her own house in Wasilla and showing up to work at some random state office building in Anchorage, when the state capital is actually Juneau? And they made her pay back taxes on the money, as income?
The new complaint says that it was not legitimate income, that she should never have gotten it in the first place, that the only reason she did it was to pad her salary. Because no other employee of the state of Alaska would have been permitted to receive that money or keep it, especially since the “commute” to Anchorage is 45 minutes and the minimum to receive any expense money is 50 minutes.
Anyway, the complainant wants her to pay back the ill-gotten gains. That’s all. Sounds reasonable enough to me. They’d have made me pay it back. I’m pretty sure about that.
But rather than photoshop another face on Sarah’s head or another head on her shoulders, I thought you might like to see this cute video of a black woman doing a spot-on impression of Sarah Palin.
