Who stays on campus?

The specialized programs we offer in this school draw students from across the country. Although it might be possible for a few advanced students to commute from homes nearby, the reality is that our intensive programs are maximally effective on a residential basis. Thus, all of our students live on-campus.

It is also the case that we recruit employees for their value to the school, rather than for how close they live. Regardless of how dedicated teachers and other staff might be, the distance from the nearest city means that we needed to set up housing and work out flexible schedules so they could spend time with their families.

We also have full-time residential employees who have chosen to live on campus, rather than maintaining a separate off-campus residence. Since the pay is so good, free rent is an attractive perk for single employees.

In addition, we offer weekend and vacation seminars to members of the public on a tuition basis. Doing so has helped our school keep tuition affordable, though it does give rise to other housing challenges.

The challenge is to provide comfortable housing for females living permanently on campus, while making sure that sufficient space exists for female visitors. At the same time we need to provide enough housing for males taking weekend and holiday workshops, while still keeping the boys adequately housed.
