This is amazing to me. A Japanese man was arrested for calling a food company’s toll-free number 500 times in 16 months for a total of 3,100 hours worth of free calls, costing the company ¥ 4 million, £19,500, or $38,752. They are checking to see if he has done the same thing to other companies as well.

But, um, that’s not only a lot of money. It’s also a lot of time spent on calls. It’s 6.2 hours per call. Every damned day. They’re also paying .21 a minute for their toll-free service, which may be the going rate in Japan, but it’s way out of line in the US to pay that much for toll-free service.
It’s 186,000 minutes. I earn $1 a minute and up, and if he calls I won’t sue him. I promise. I might even give him a special rate if he pays up front for the whole thing.

I can’t believe it’s been so long. Here I’ve been busy tending to things, running the school, where we continually induct new students year round. And we’ve gotten some real doozies in here lately, boys who don’t know their place in the scheme of things and are somehow confused about the fact that they have been abandoned by their families here, possibly never to see them again…unless they do as they are told. We do get the majority of our new inductees in just this way, when graduation doesn’t happen. They fail to make the cut the first time in their lives for many of them. The bar is just so low that it can go no lower. The consensus at this point iis a need for tough love. Tough love, I love that word. It’s exactly how I feel about every new wave of young slackers that enters our gates. Tough love. We can be very tough. It builds character for them.
Speaking of it having been a long time our loser is back. If you don’t remember him, read up on his last appearance. Now he’s saying that even though he might like to have that web page taken down, the Mistress who put it up doesn’t seem to be answering her phone calls or emails from him. Hmmm.
